People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.

We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.

I thought this event went very well. The fact there were only 3 participants gave the instructor ample time to help where needed. Frank gave good ideas, and inspiration. I find going ?solo? on these types of photo exercises a bit intimidating, but as a small group it confidence was better, and yet we were small enough that we didn?t hinder our subject matter. We more or less blended in.

Very informative. Maria was helpful in letting us know what we would be doing and what to look for. As we toured around she pointed out things that we should be looking at and for. Although the meet up was not designed to be a technical session she was able to answer questions that came up and provide suggestions for moving forward.

    PHOTOGRAPHERS
    Ethan Macdonald-Wood
I've been passionate about photography since I was 12 when my grandmother, a photographer herself, gifted me her old camera. This sparked a deep love for the craft, and I spent my youth immersed in her collection of photography books. After graduating from Fanshawe College's photography program, I focused on product photography, though I have experience in various other styles as well.

Inspired by a professor who encouraged me to teach, I now share my knowledge and creativity with others. I'm dedicated to helping students grow, whether they're looking to refine their photography or explore other aspects of the art. I offer a supportive, hands-on approach to help you develop your skills and take your photography to the next level.

That day, I had nothing to do, so I decided to go on a photowalk at Cherryhill Trail, which is near where I live. The lighting wasn?t favorable?normally, I shoot at 1/200s and f/8, but it was so dark that I had to lower the shutter speed to 1/100s and just hope the bird would stay still for a moment. It was simply luck that I managed to freeze the moment with such a slow shutter speed. The birds were quite shy around humans, but I still managed to take some shots. This was the first time I tried

I had been searching for Snowy Owls during the previous week, and my quest had been unsuccessful. I saw an opening for a "walk-in" photoshoot at the CRC, so I took it. Along with eagles, various hawks, and their Snowy owl, this fine specimen of the Great Grey Owl was presented as a "static" display. Its haunting stare is always photogenic. The photo was taken with my Canon R6 camera attached to the RF 100-500 mm f4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens at 450mm. Shutter speed: 1/500 sec, f/6.3 ISO 1250.

This photo was taken during a cruise in 2016 that stopped for a couple days in St. Petersburg, Russia. The colours of the flowers in this garden literally "popped", and captured my eye. High tide was around 2am which meant there would still be plenty of water on the beach in the hour before sunrise. Weather forecast was promising with sun and cloud forecast so I was set for an early start. Up at 5-40am and was in position on the beach just before 5 am. As often happens my best pictures were taken within the first 20 minutes when the light was at its best.
