Street Photography

Saturday 25 January
Downtown London - 10am - 2 Hours
Sherry Plumstead
People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations, and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practiced skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you. We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.

Photographing Reflections Shadows

Photographing Reflections Shadows

Saturday 22 February
Downtown London - 3pm - 2 Hours
Sherry Plumstead
We will be using natural water reflections and seek out man-made reflective surfaces in the area to explore how we can use reflections to add depth and intrigue to our images. Reflections can help us to show our subject from an unusual, or from multiple, points of view. We can use reflections to abstract our subject or to make perfect mirror images. We'll also look at photographing shadows. What time of day is best? How to avoid your own shadow. Silhouettes, patterns, framing. Shadows can bring out depth in an image, create mystery and evoke emotions.

I thought this event went very well. The fact there were only 3 participants gave the instructor ample time to help where needed. Frank gave good ideas, and inspiration. I find going ?solo? on these types of photo exercises a bit intimidating, but as a small group it confidence was better, and yet we were small enough that we didn?t hinder our subject matter. We more or less blended in.

Very informative. Maria was helpful in letting us know what we would be doing and what to look for. As we toured around she pointed out things that we should be looking at and for. Although the meet up was not designed to be a technical session she was able to answer questions that came up and provide suggestions for moving forward.

I had been searching for Snowy Owls during the previous week, and my quest had been unsuccessful. I saw an opening for a "walk-in" photoshoot at the CRC, so I took it. Along with eagles, various hawks, and their Snowy owl, this fine specimen of the Great Grey Owl was presented as a "static" display. Its haunting stare is always photogenic. The photo was taken with my Canon R6 camera attached to the RF 100-500 mm f4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens at 450mm. Shutter speed: 1/500 sec, f/6.3 ISO 1250.

This photo was taken during a cruise in 2016 that stopped for a couple days in St. Petersburg, Russia. The colours of the flowers in this garden literally "popped", and captured my eye. This photo was taken with a Canon 7D Mk II camera, with the EF 24-105mm f/4 L series lens at 24mm. f/9.0, 1/250 sec exposure at an ISO of 400.

A sudden urge sparks a desire to chase the Northern Lights. The night sky calls with its swirling greens and purples, promising an unforgettable sight. As I step into the crisp air, excitement grows, driven by the chance to capture this fleeting beauty. The world fades away, leaving just the shimmering auroras above, a reminder of nature's magic waiting to be photographed. Setting : F4, ISO 3200 ,Exposure 5 seconds

Title or Location: London Nine Mile Rd & Hyde Park Rd
As I enjoy taking sunrise/sunset picture, I was droving around Denfield and Nine Mile roads to capture a lonely tree, an old barn, or a sidelite corn field at sunset. It was pretty awesome to see this scene on Nine Mile Road - bales in a field, a lonely tree, lush green grass like a carpet, and a clear blue sky. The sun was low but not warm, the sidelight was illuminating the field, and the scene was vast, fresh, and serene. It was the naturally formed layers that caught my attention - the warm

As part of my final project as a fourth-year photography major, I chose to explore and document Calgary?s sculptures, which embody the history and heritage of its people and landscape. One of the highlights of my work is By the Banks of the Bow, one of the largest sculptural artworks in North America. To enhance the visual impact of the image, I utilized Photoshop, particularly to create a dramatic sky that seamlessly complements the dynamism of the horses and the cowboy. This piece celebrate

This long exposure shot is from August, 2024. I was visiting Liberty State Park, New Jersey. From Liberty park you get such an AMAZING view of the NYC skyline looking across the water. It?s awesome during the day but even more magical at night as you can see. I?d recommend a visit here just for the views to anyone.
